Mills Calls on Mayorkas to Resign

With days before Title 42 comes to a close, Republicans are signaling the alarm regarding the border crisis. In an interview with Fox News, Florida Rep. Cory Mills (R) discussed the ending of Title 42, calling on Secretary Mayorkas to resign.

This week, the House will vote on a border security package to respond to an influx of immigrants coming to the United States upon Title 42 ending.

Rp. Mills shared that Arizona Senator Krysten Sinema (I) and North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis (R) have been working on extending Title 42 for another two years, but given that the law will come to an end on May 11th, it doesn’t seem like that will be enacted.

In response to Title 42, Rep. Mills explained that the law was put in place to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, given the numerous people that have died because of fentanyl, that could also be considered a public health issue.

Because of that, Mills has suggested that “we could put Title 42 back in place, and I would say even permanently, until the actual invasion does stop.”

The Florida Republican detailed that 2.3 million people that the government is aware of came into the country in 2022. 1.3 million have come into the country so far this year. As a result, the end of Title 42 would put Custom and Border Patrol at a disadvantage.

In speaking about Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, Mills argued three options for moving forward: Mayorkas is removed from office, he resigns, or he is impeached.

Mills feels that Mayorkas should not continue serving as the Secretary of Homeland Security because "he has put American lives at risk, children's lives at risk," and Mexican cartels have significantly increased their revenue from 2018, which now spans over 13 billion.

In short, Mills remains committed to ensuring that the border is secured, and he argues that the country to focus on “trying to protect the sovereignty of America."
