Salazar Letter Urges Mayorkas to Help Guatemala

Florida Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R) has directed a letter to Secretary Mayorkas in support of Guatemala. The United States braces for the effects of Title 42 coming to an end, but other countries are also preparing for repercussions.

Earlier this month, Rep. Salazar called on President Joe Biden (D) to support Guatemala in ending the current migration crisis. Salazar released a statement, informing that “Guatemalans have been pleading with the Biden Administration to help them stem the flow of illegal immigration through Guatemala, only to be treated with contempt in return.”

This week, Salazar has directed a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, “demanding the Biden Administration supply Guatemala with the resources they need to stop the expected surge of migrants when Title 42 expires next week!”

The letter comes the same week that Florida Rep. Cory Mills (R) has called on Mayorkas to resign, to be removed from office, or to be impeached for not addressing immigration concerns in the U.S.

In the letter, Salazar highlights concerns, which include “the Migration Crisis is out of Control,” “Guatemala is Desperately Asking for Help,” and “You Need to Give Guatemala Equipment and Resources NOW.”

Salazar explains that Alejandro Giammattei, the President of Guatemala, has shared news with her of “biblical proportions,” noting that “Guatemala is at the breaking point after bearing endless waves of migrants rushing to our Southern Border after the irresponsible comments made by President Biden at the beginning of his presidency.”

She goes on to explain that some Central American countries have profited from the migration crisis, turning it “into a smooth and profitable business where they just charge the migrants a fee and wave them on to Mexico and our Southern Border.” However, “Guatemala, rightly, is committed to a policy of no illegal immigration,” Salazar states, adding that “enforcing the law has been a terrible burden and the Guatemalans are now almost out of money and equipment trying to stop this historic flood of people.”
