SIOUX CITY, IA – Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and First Lady Casey DeSantis held what has been likened to a fireside chat at the Port Neal Welding Company in the Hawkeye State.
In the Republican nomination process, Iowa is the first state election that will determine who will be the GOP nominee on the ballot in November of 2024.
At the event, the married couple discussed tough issues such as fentanyl but also kept it light with talk about family life and even midwestern food.
“The best fried chicken came from the pizza place and the best pizza came from the gas station. I’m like, you guys are doing it right! I love it,” stated First Lady DeSantis.
She would go on to mention that it’s “an honor and a privilege” to be able to travel to Iowa.
“Honestly, we’re having a great time. I mean, what an honor and a privilege it is to be able to travel the country and come to a place like Iowa. By the way, I’m from Southwestern Ohio, so I have Midwestern roots," said First Lady DeSantis. "It’s just people are so nice and we’re having a great time and it’s just really special. So, I hope you know how much we really do appreciate the opportunity to be here. And for you guys to take the time out of your day because we know being away from the kids and being away from the grandkids isn’t always easy.”
First Lady DeSantis concluded her ode to the Iowan people with an invocation to the crowd to send her husband to the Oval Office.
“But you know what? America is on the line and our best days are yet to come and I have 100% confidence, if you put this guy up there, he will absolutely get it done.”
There were approximately “100 and change” attendees according to The Floridian publisher, Javier Manjarres.
The next three stops on the campaign trail are expected to be in Council Bluffs, Pella, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in that order.
