Today, Governor Ron DeSantis signed a law that will make protections against vaccine mandates, vaccine passports and forced masking permanent in the State of Florida.
"First bill really goes back to the idea of prescribing freedom and it really does a lot of things. It makes all these protections permanent that we have done over the last two years," said DeSantis at a Press Conference at Oceans Church in Destin earlier today.
"Schools can't mandate Covid jabs, workplace can't mandate, the vax passports. None of that stuff. It also expands protections, not just for Covid shots but any shot under Emergency Use Authorization," said DeSantis to cheers. "If it's emergency use how can they force you to take it? Whether it's business or government. That is wrong and that will not be allowed in the State of Florida."
The new law also makes mask mandates in any school from kindergarten through college illegal. This includes face shields or face coverings of any kind.
Medical facilities cannot force people to wear masks other than for what they were meant to be used for in certain situations.
The law also prohibits employers from refusing employment to or discharging, disciplining, demoting, or otherwise discriminating against an individual solely on the basis of vaccination or immunity status. It also prevents discrimination against Floridians related to COVID-19 vaccination or immunity status.
During the pandemic, some doctors were requiring Covid jabs as a prerequisite for providing treatment. This will now be permanently illegal in Florida.
