DeSantis Scolds Federal Government, Believes Nation Headed Towards Bankruptcy

With a debt ceiling agreement finally reached, Governor and now-presidential nominee Ron DeSantis (R-FL) provided his thoughts concerning the tentative plan by the federal government that would pay the nation’s bills while making an appearance on Fox News.

He believes that the country will still be “careening toward bankruptcy” even with the new deal in place.

“Well, prior to this deal, our country was careening towards bankruptcy, and after this deal, our country will still be careening towards bankruptcy. And to say you can do 4 trillion of increases in the next year and a half, that’s a massive amount of spending. I think that we’ve gotten ourselves on a trajectory here really since March of 2020. With some of the COVID spending it totally reset the budget and they’re sticking with that,” stated Gov. DeSantis.

“America’s Governor” would also flaunt his record in Tallahassee when it comes to the balancing the state budget, in which he states that the Sunshine State is in the red.

“In Florida, we run big budget surpluses. We have $1.2 trillion economy, but our debt is only 17 billion, [the] second lowest per capita in the country. But we make tough choices, and we make sure that we look forward to the long haul.”

Gov. DeSantis took a shot at the federal government for not being able to solve problems, but rather, prolong them until the next election cycle.

“Obviously in Washington, D.C., they do these cycles to just get them through the next election. And that’s one of the reasons why they continue to fail.”

Recent data from Real Clear Politics showcased that Gov. DeSantis improved his poll numbers by six percent before he announced his bid for President on May 24th.

However, he still trails former President Donald Trump (R) by 16 points. But those numbers are expected to rise in favor of the Florida Governor.

Responses from Team DeSantis reflect this growing optimism, with Press Secretary Bryan Griffin stating because the pro-Trump super PAC MAGA Inc. spent more money attacking DeSantis than it did to boost candidates in the 2022 midterms, DeSantis is the "greatest threat" to Trump's reelection campaign.

"These are the largest ongoing expenditures against a non-candidate in Republican primary history, and that’s all you need to know to draw the obvious conclusion. Ron DeSantis presents the greatest threat to Donald Trump," said Griffin.

The two candidates are expected to face off for the first time in August in Milwaukee at the first Republican primary debate.
