Darren Soto Supports Keeping Children Books Containing Porn, Asserts that DeSantis is 'Failing Florida'

Representative Darren Soto (D-FL) is calling out Governor and now-presidential candidate Ron DeSantis (R-FL) for “failing Florida” when it comes to book bans and his rocky relationship with Disney.

In a recent tweet, Rep. Soto mentioned Gov. DeSantis’ “cultural wars” as the main reason for his shortcomings. Others believe that this is Rep. Soto “coming out against removing books with sexual content from children’s libraries,” as Delanie Bomar – the Southeast Press Secretary for the NRCC, asserts.

“As we’ve seen over & over, DeSantis is failing Florida. His cultural wars & divisive rhetoric have cost Central Florida thousands of jobs & billions of dollars in investments, like we recently saw with Disney pulling plans to create a Lake Nona campus,” stated Rep. Soto.

He would go on to mention that DeSantis has turned “vulnerable populations into targets.”

“He has also championed book banning, turned vulnerable populations into targets for violence & his policies are dangerous for our future. After his failed presidential bid, I hope our state elects a governor who will work in a bipartisan manner for the good of all Floridians,” mentioned Soto.

This statement comes just days after the NAACP announced a travel advisory to the state of Florida.

The group’s notice states, "Florida is openly hostile toward African Americans, people of color and LGBTQ+ individuals. Before traveling to Florida, please understand that the state of Florida devalues and marginalizes the contributions of, and the challenges faced by African Americans and other communities of color."

In the press release, it would also include the notion that DeSantis and his administration have embarked on “aggressive attempts to erase Black history and to restrict diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in Florida schools.”

DeSantis is expected to partake in the first Republican primary debate in August in Milwaukee.
