Will a President Ron DeSantis Play in the D.C. 'Swamp?'

As the promise (or the threat) of a Ron DeSantis Presidential run seems more likely by the day, questions and hypotheticals have come across the minds of politicians and pundits around the nation concerning the atmosphere that a DeSantis Presidency would entail; Questions such as how the Florida Governor will interact with the Washington elite and big wigs.

Before Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) won his first term and was labeled “America’s Governor,” he was a member of the United States House of Representatives.

During his time in the House, then-Rep. DeSantis, who sat on the House Oversight Committee, showcased his frustration with Republican leadership, such as now-Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) – who was Majority Leader at that point – and their lack of motivation to investigate the Democrats when given the opportunity to.

The Floridian Publisher Javier Manjarres had a chance to interview DeSantis in 2017 during which the Clinton Foundation quid-pro-quo scandal was in full view.

“Part of the frustration that I have had, the House and Republican rule has not been as effective as it needs to be in doing oversight,” said DeSantis.

“You remember the Clinton Foundation? When that scandal broke, we were barred from the leadership from doing one hearing, one subpoena, and nothing in the congress about the Clinton Foundation. You had all this money going into the foundation from foreign governments, you had money going to Bill Clinton from foreign governments, you had Hillary taking action as Secretary of State," stated DeSantis.

Moreover, in 2017, Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s (R-FL) aide, Imran Awan, was arrested for bank fraud, had unauthorized access to Congressional computer systems, and maintained alleged ties to Hezbollah.

Rep. DeSantis commented on the fact that the scandal at the time could’ve been the “biggest scandal in Congress since the House banking scandal in the early 90s.”

“I think that there is concern that there is not going to be investigated as zealously as it needs to be, this has the potential to be the biggest scandal in Congress since the House banking scandal in the early ‘90s, but in order to get the facts, you really got to go at it that hasn’t been done so far, I can’t answer that,” added DeSantis.

Would a DeSantis Presidency be one that is able to bury the hatchet with old colleagues who are deemed part of the D.C. "Swamp" and "establishment?"

Will it be an administration that is able to reach the Republican ideological aisle and kiss and makeup within its pews?

Or will there be another great schism among the Republican Party yet again?

Once again, all of these are hypotheticals. However, one of life’s possible outcomes eventually comes true as all eyes are DeSantis's every political move.
