Rubio Introduces New Bill in Response to Inflation Reduction Act

Share

In response to the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) that was passed by the Democratic-controlled Congress over the summer, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) has introduced the Restricting Electric Vehicle Outlays from Kleptomaniac Enemies (REVOKE) Act of 2023.

Sen. Rubio claims that the IRA is actually a “$749 billion climate and tax law” that contributes billions towards in government subsidies that goes towards the electric vehicle (EV) battery industry.

According to Sen. Rubio’s press release concerning his new bill, 76% of EV battery production is affiliated with Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Rubio’s bill looks to curb the amount of government-funded, taxpayer enabled subsidies that benefit China through the IRA’s allotments.

“Hard-working Americans should not be forced to subsidize Chinese companies that make batteries for electric vehicles that cost more than most people make in a year,” stated Sen. Rubio.

In February, Rubio called the EV industry a perfect example of a “Trojan Horse for China,” in an op-ed for Newsweek.

“We cannot afford to be so naïve. That is why I have demanded a commitment from the Biden administration that no tax credits from the Inflation Reduction Act will go to Chinese companies—directly or indirectly,” said Rubio.

He would go on to mention that Democrats and corporations are too busy worried about how they look to the masses rather than “strengthening the U.S.”

“Unfortunately, [Democrats and corporations] care more about their image as climate warriors than about strengthening the U.S…. [A]t least as far as electric vehicles are concerned, they have turned "Made in America" into another Trojan horse that Beijing will use to threaten, divide, and outcompete the U.S.” mentioned Rubio.

Rubio’s new bill would block subsidies from any company, foreign or domestic, that is backed by the Chinese state.
