Lauren Book Gives State of State Rebuttal

Recently, Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) gave his State of the State address to the Florida Legislature and to the Floridians around the state. However, in the tradition of civil discourse in the United States, the Florida Democrats offered their rebuttal to the Governor’s speech, given by State Senate Minority Leader Lauren Book (D-FL).

Sen. Book conceded the notion that the Sunshine State’s economy “is booming,” but her rebuttal goes on to address the Florida Democratic Party’s belief that working-class people are being left behind despite the state’s financial success.

“When Floridians can’t earn a living wage to create their own version of the American dream, it’s time to ask ourselves why,” stated Sen. Book.

She would go on to provide a plethora of examples in which the Florida Democrats believe that Gov. DeSantis’ administration is failing Floridians.

“When homeowners can’t afford property, health, and car insurance with no relief in sight, it’s time to ask why. When the elderly can’t afford health care and families are having to ration insulin, it’s time to ask why. When teachers and first responders can’t afford to live in the communities that they serve, it’s time to ask why,” said Sen. Book.

“This is the true state of our state, and Floridians, you, deserve better,” Book concluded.

Gov. DeSantis spoke about gender ideology in schools following his State of the State address.

“The topic of things like gender ideology: I think it’s inappropriate. You’re having these kids and they’re basically being told ‘you may not be a boy, you may not be a girl.’ Parents don’t want that. I don’t think they want any of this stuff,” said DeSantis.

“But we need to focus on the basics of academics. We need to focus on reading, writing, math, all these different things. That is what unites parents and unites us,” stated DeSantis.

At this moment for the foreseeable future, DeSantis and Book will be butting heads for a few more years, at least.
