the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has announced the Community Planning and Development Program Formula Allocations for Fiscal Year (FY) 2023. Florida Rep.
Maria Elvira Salazar (R) released a statement, vowing to reduce the cost of living for residents of Miami. The cost of living in Miami-Dade County has been a difficult topic of discussion for a while, but Salazar assures that this funding is a step in the right direction.
In a statement, Salazar expressed that “as Miami becomes an increasingly popular place to live, I remain committed to ensuring families have affordable and viable housing options in our area. These grants are vital to local municipalities around our country and will help residents with their housing needs.” The Florida Republican has made it clear that she intends to support policies like Community Development Block Grants because of the help they provide for Miami-Dade County residents.
Her district, Congressional District 27, is scheduled to receive over $18.5 million dollars that would be broken up into three different grant programs. These programs are the Community Development Block (CDBG) Grants, the Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG), and the Home Program.
According to a press release from Salazar's office, Miami-Dade County will receive 3 grants, totaling $18,564,478, that will significantly help Miami-Dade residents.

Community Development Block (CDBG) Grants program provides annual grants to States and local units of government to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons.Miami-Dade County: $11,970,673."

Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) program provides annual grants to State, local, and private entities to assist people in quickly regaining stability in permanent housing after experiencing a housing crisis and/or homelessness. Miami-Dade County: $1,052,098."

HOME Program helps to expand the supply of decent, affordable housing to low- and very low-income families by providing grants to States and local governments to fund housing programs that meet local needs and priorities. Miami-Dade County: $5,541,707."
