Since 2016, Joy Reid has been a host on MSNBC and despite navigating some controversies during her tenure, she has made a home for herself on the network. In what News Busters journalist Kevin Tober described as a “meltdown,” Reid described Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) as a someone who will enforce “total government control” should he become President.
“If Florida Governor Ron DeSantis becomes President of the United States which he is clearly aiming for, America will become the land of total government control of over women’s bodies, black history, gender identity, you can teach, learn, read, think, even talk!” stated Reid on “The Reid Out.”
“It would essentially be a more functionally authoritarian version of Trump. A more action, less personality type of President who’s basically offering two options: pre-civil rights America or total control of society,” mentioned Reid.
Reid makes an interesting case. She believes that Gov. DeSantis will either be so Libertarian to go as far to repeal the Civil Rights Act (or at least parts of it, as University of Michigan Law Professor Samuel Bagenstos points out), or so authoritarian that he will have “total control of society.”
Politically speaking, two ideologies could not be further apart from each other.
Reid also took a shot at Gov. DeSantis’ new book that is coming out soon.
“But of course, his robust PR team has been thinking quite the opposite, which is why his new book, titled, and I’m not making this up, ‘The Courage to be Free’…Did you know that this isn’t even baby mama’s first book? He also penned ‘Dreams from our Founding Fathers,’ published in 2011, and it pretty much sums up what we directly know about the guy,” said Reid.
It appears that it is no secret, demonstrated by pundits like Reid, that those who do not favor DeSantis are worried about his possible run in 2024.
