Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is facing a challenge to his potential 2024 presidential run for office as an activist and former congressional candidate Laura Loomer, has penned a “resolution” to try to prevent the popular Governor from running for higher office.
Loomer’s “Enforce Resign to Run Law” resolution, which will be passed out at the upcoming Republican Party of Florida quarterly meeting in Orlando, Florida, is an effort aimed at Florida State lawmakers to pressure them from passing any legislation that would sidestep the current “Resign to Run” statute.
The statute in question states,” any officer who qualifies for federal public office must resign from the office he or she presently holds if the terms, or any part thereof, run concurrently with each other.”
Loomer’s resolution states that DeSantis is “obligated to the electors of the State of Florida to serve the entire four years of his second term as he was elected to serve,” and believes that “changing laws to accommodate any individual’s political aspirations and career is a bad practice and a bad precedent to set for the State of Florida and the United States of America.”
House Speaker Paul Renner and Senate President Kathleen Passidomo have both said that they would change to the statute to allow Gov. DeSantis to run for president.
DeSantis and Trump Square off at Florida GOP Meeting
“Candidly, we have gone back and forth based on the circumstances of the moment,” stated Speaker Renner in a recent statement to reporters. “In this case, it’s an honor for someone from Florida to even consider running for President.”
“It’s clear that Governor DeSantis is abusing his power as Governor to urge legislators in back door deals to change Florida’s Resign to Run law so that he can have his cake and eat it too. DeSantis is clearly not confident he can beat President Trump in a 2024 GOP primary, so he’s doing back-door deals to create a safety net so that he can keep his job as Governor if he loses to Trump, instead of resigning and losing both a Presidential primary and his seat,” said Loomer in a statement to The Floridian.
Loomer, who is a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump and has endorsed his 2024 presidential candidacy, has taken aim at DeSantis since losing her 2022 Republican congressional primary race against Rep. Daniel Webster.
“The Laura Loomer For Congress campaign was the first and only deplatformed federal campaign in US History, and the only campaign in the state of Florida that was denied the ability to create social media accounts. Ron DeSantis talks a big talk, but he did NOTHING as Republican voters had their elections interfered in during my congressional race by Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Paypal, and Comcast.”
Recently, Loomer referred to DeSantis as “meatball” and has questioned why First Lady Casey DeSantis does not go by her first name “Jill.”
Casey is her middle name.
In addition, Loomer who believes her 2022 congressional election was rigged and stolen from her, also says that DeSantis cost her the election because he did not go far enough to combat Big Tech censorship of candidates for elected office.
It appears as if there is a concerted effort by supporters of President Trump to challenge the probable DeSantis presidential run in the months before he is expected to announce his presidential aspirations.
DeSantis recently stated," Wouldn't you like to know," when asked if he was going to announce a presidential campaign after former Gov. Nikki Haley announced.
