Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) has vowed to invest in Floridians. Last month, DeSantis unveiled his “Framework for Freedom” budget. DeSantis shared excerpts on social media from the budget's unveiling and how his administration will support FDOT.
On social media, Governor DeSantis shared an excerpt of a press conference, expressing that Florida is “a growing state, and we are investing in infrastructure that will help Floridians and businesses succeed.”
This plan includes “$7 billion for Moving Forward Florida,” and “$13.4 billion for the Florida Department of Transportation Work Program.”
At the end of January, Governor DeSantis announced the Moving Forward Florida initiative, which was welcomed by Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Jared W. Perdue, P.E. He called the initiative "truly historic," adding that "the projects included will help relieve congestion while also focusing on safety, resiliency, the supply chain, and economic growth." Purdue noted that this effort will contribute to "Floridians' quality of life and to ensure we maintain a strong transportation system to keep Florida moving forward."
Speaking on Moving Forward Florida, DeSantis said that it would "break through bureaucracy that often slows down infrastructure projects and allow FDOT to target projects that will ease congestion across the street," adding that "expediting these projects will bring them to completion more than a decade ahead of schedule."
Governor DeSantis commented that Florida is flourishing not just for the people that are moving to the state. When funding is provided for projects, he chided that it takes "20 years" for there to be movement. Instead, with the $7 billion meant to enhance the programs, DeSantis vowed that it will help bolster efforts in Central Florida, Tampa Bay, and even the Panhandle.
Political pundits continue to speculate that Governor DeSantis is preparing to launch a presidential run. This has created tension between DeSantis and President Donald Trump (R), which has sparked a rivalry.
