Anthony Rubio Will Play College Football at University of Florida

Share

“God is good,” stated Senator Marco Rubio after his eldest son Anthony signed a letter of intent to attend the University of Florida, his alma mater.

Anthony Rubio, who was a stand-out football player at Belen Jesuit Preparatory School in Miami-Dade County, will also play football for the Gators.

Rubio made his intentions public at a Belen ceremony, where he and other teammates signed collegiate letters of intent.

During his high school football career, Rubio racked up 1474 rushing yards in 229 games, scoring a total of 15 touchdowns.

Considering Sen. Rubio's involvement with his son’s budding football career, going to UF probably brought a tear or two to the senior senator from Florida’s eyes.

After all, UF is Sen. Rubio’s alma mater. Whenever he is not wearing his beloved Miami Dolphins’ teal, Rubio is usually sporting Gator orange.

For years, Sen. Rubio has vicariously lived a college and professional football career through his son Anthony, so it goes without saying that dad is very proud, as is the rest of the family.

As is the case with most freshman collegiate athletes, it could take a while before Rubio sees any action on the field, but considering how unpredictable college sports injuries are, Rubio could receive handoffs sooner than expected.
