Generation Z Congressman Calls for Deportation of Brazil's Bolsonaro

Share

In the past midterm elections, Floridians in the 10th District elected the very first  Generation Z  candidate to serve in U.S. Congress. His name is Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL).

In a recent interview, Rep. Frost was questioned about the former President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, a right-leaning leader who recently left his home country following his defeat and was spotted in Orlando (in or near Frost’s District).

Due to the defeat, opponents of current left-wing Brazilian President, Luiz Inacio Lula de Silva (commonly referred to as Lula)  storm government buildings; scenes that some have likened to the events of January 6th.

The former Brazilian President is currently under investigation for allegedly releasing classified documents, attacking the integrity of voting machines, as well as other crimes. Without any proof to tie Bolsonaro to the riots, Rep. Frost believes he should be deported to “face the consequences of his actions.”

“Florida should not be a place where we give safe refuge to fascist leaders. Bolsonaro should be sent to Brazil and immediately face the consequences of his actions,” said Frost in a tweet.

Frost believes that Bolsonaro could be a threat to American democracy as well as global democracy with his residency in Orlando. Within the interview, he was quoted in saying that “the fact of the matter is: fascist leaders and extremists anywhere are a threat to democracy everywhere, and so they should not be in Florida.”

Frost is not alone. Those who agree with him include Progressives Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), and State Rep. Anna V. Eskamani (D-FL), who has called for Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) to end Bolsonaro’s stay in the state of Florida.

“ @ GovRonDeSantis why are you giving refuge to Jair Bolsonaro in Florida? Is it because you support far right fascist regimes storming capitols!?” tweeted Eskamani.

Bolsonaro has not conceded his narrowly lost election, nor has he promoted any of the violence that has taken place. In fact, he condemned it before leaving for the United States, saying to his supporters that “We lost a battle, but we will not lose the war, the world does not end on Jan. 1st.”

President Joe Biden (D) condemned the attacks, supporting Lula as well in the process.
