Democrats continue expressing their disapproval of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) this time its because of his nixing of the Advanced Placement African-American Studies course that was being taught by Florida schools.
Naturally, this brings accusations of racism from his detractors, including a remolding of the "Don't Say Gay" slogan into "Don't Say Black." Despite this, DeSantis remains unbowed.
DeSantis War Room tweeted a clip from DeSantis' recent appearance on Fox's Unfiltered, where he says "It's about academic excellence & the pursuit of truth. We don't believe it should be for social justice or to impose an ideology on the students. We're excited to be taking on these issues when not many people have been willing to do this."
In the brief video, DeSantis tells host Dan Bongino "it's been a four-year cycle of "we will take strong action," the media and the left will have a spasm, they'll say "the heavens are gonna fall down," and then like two or three months later, they just move on. People will say, "oh, the Governor was right," and that's what will be happening with this."
From here, DeSantis reiterates what is tweeted.
"Higher education though, we believe in Florida that it's about academic excellence and the pursuit of truth. We don't believe higher education should be for social justice or to impose an ideology on the students," said DeSantis.
Because of this commitment, he says that his education policy is "a different approach for us than most colleges right now in our country." And despite the aforementioned few months of outrage, "I think it's the approach that Floridians want to see, and I think that it's the approach that's ultimately going to be best for Florida students."
DeSantis' previous actions earlier this month demonstrate this drive, as he proposed auditing Florida colleges who teach Critical Race Theory and appointed anti-CRT activist Christopher Rufo to the New College for Florida Board.
