After her husband was attacked at home and Republicans won the Majority in the House of Representatives, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D) signaled that her role as a Democratic party leader had come to a close.

This week, Democrats chose a new leader in New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D), and Florida Democrats are championing the New Democratic leadership.

In late October, Paul Pelosi was attacked in his home, and in a subsequent interview with Speaker Pelosi, she indicated that the incident had caused her to question her future in leading the Democratic party.

As the November midterm election concluded, it was clear that Republicans would be taking the House, and with the victory would come new leadership.

As Republicans question if California Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R) deserves to be the new Speaker of the House, Democrats dug in for Rep. Jeffries.

After the announcement, several Democrats expressed their praise for Rep. Jeffries, relaying that Democrats have a bright future under the guidance of Jeffries.

Calling the election of Jeffries as Leader-designate, Massachusetts Rep. Katherine Clark (D) as Whip-designate, and California Rep. Pete Aguilar (D) as Chairman-designate a “new historic leadership team,” Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) further called the new leadership “a new generation of sharp, tough, energetic House Democrats that America needs.”

Similarly, Florida Rep. Frederica Wilson (D) took to Twitter to praise Jeffries, highlighting that he has made history by becoming the first Black Democratic Leader.

"Congratulations Leader-designate, can’t wait to work together to advance the priorities of the American people," Wilson further expressed.

Speaker Pelosi also congratulated the newly election Leaders, sharing that "this new generation of leaders reflects the vibrancy and diversity of our great nation – and they will reinvigorate our Caucus with new energy, ideas and perspective."
