Rubio, AOC Come Together in Rare Moment of Political Harmony

Pigs are flying. Hell has frozen over. The sky has fallen. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) have agreed on something.

No, your eyes are not deceiving you. Nor are you dreaming. And no, I am not lying to you. The Florida Senator and the New York Representative have come together in a beautiful moment of unity. Even on an issue of this level of importance, no one saw this coming.

The legislators agreed on the union labor agreement that has avoided a mass railroad freight strike. The walkout could’ve costed the American economy billions of dollars a day.

However, what might be the most noteworthy is the fact that not only did Rubio vote yes on the labor agreement, but he also voted yes to the paid sick-leave proposal, which ended up falling short in when it came to a vote, 52-43.

He was one of 6 Republicans to vote for it. Alongside Rubio were Senators Mike Braun (IN-R), Ted Cruz (TX-R), Lindsey Graham (SC-R), Josh Hawley (MO-R), and  John Kennedy (LA-R).

“The way to avoid a rail strike isn’t for Congress to impose a deal made by labor bosses that were rejected by the rank & file of unions representing over half the rail workers. The way to avoid a strike is a new deal that rank & file members will support,” stated Rubio.

In response to this tweet, AOC said that this moment was “a rarity” but she was glad that the legislator in the upper chamber and across the aisle were “on the same page.” She then asked if she could count on his vote for the paid sick-leave amendment. Rubio delivered.

“Glad we are on the same page re: railworkers’ paid sick days @marcorubio. A rarity, but we’ll take it. The House just sent over what you asked for: the full TA deal w/ sick days as supported and demanded by our railworkers. Can they count on your YES vote for the amendment?” tweeted Ocasio-Cortez.
