New Poll Shows Voters Prefer DeSantis Over Trump in 2024

Share

A new Marquette Law School poll shows that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is preferred by voters over former President Donald Trump to be the 2024 Republican presidential nominee.

President Trump has enjoyed a significant advantage over Gov. DeSantis in most of the polls, but over the past couple of months the tide appears to have turned in favor of “America’s Governor.”

The public opinion poll conducted Nov. 15-22 of 1,004 adults across the nation has DeSantis tied with President Joe Biden in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup.

“The survey, conducted Nov. 15-22, 2022, included 1,004 adults nationwide with a margin of error of +/-3.7 percentage points. Of those adults, 840 were registered voters, with a margin of error of +/-4 percentage points. The Republican subsample has a margin of error of +/-6.1 percentage points, and the Democratic subsample margin of error is +/-5.6 percentage points.”

While the poll shows that DeSantis and Biden are tied with 42% support each, it also shows Trump trailing Biden 44%-34 in a 2024 presidential election rematch.

This is not good news for Trump, who recently announced his reelection bid.

The news of the poll fuels the growing speculation that  DeSantis will announce a run for president sometime after the 2023 legislative session in Florida oncludes next May.

As we mentioned, Trump has been crushing DeSantis and other potential 2024 presidential candidates in many of the past polls, but in 2022, those polls have shifted to favor DeSantis, especially the Conservative-leaning surveys.

It was widely accepted by lawmakers, whether they had presidential ambitions or not, that Trump would clear the field if he ran for president in 2024.

If DeSantis decide to get in the race, could other potential presidential hopefuls like Sens. Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz follow his lead and challenge the former president?
