Moskowitz to Have Important Bipartisan Role in New Congress

Incoming freshman Congressman, Representative-Elect Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) will have an interesting job ahead of him as he attempts to navigate not only the D.C. landscape but the intrapersonal politics of the Democratic Party.

With Democrats claiming 50% of Jewish party registration compared to a 17% Republican clip and a 32% Independent number (according to the American Jewish Population Project, page 6), House Democrats have to appropriately play their cards right when it comes to issues like Palestine, the Iran Nuclear Deal, and so on.

For instance, Rep-elect Moskowitz’s predecessor, Rep. Ted Deutch (D-FL) was against the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (the Iran Nuclear Deal) while the Obama administration and Deutch’s colleagues such as Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) were and still are for it.

Now, Jewish Insider is reporting that Moskowitz is looking to follow in Rep. Deutch’s footsteps when it comes to foreign polic, as well as joining the Foreign Affairs Committee.

“We have one of the highest Jewish populations of any district in the country,” Moskowitz stated. “Ted Deutch [and his predecessor] Robert Wexler had a great record on Israel. I look forward to continuing having that special relationship. And so I want to be on that committee to continue their great work.”

So, when Moskowitz steps up to the plate, just how much will he be like Deutch? How will he address the Iran Deal and the Gaza Strip and the West Bank?

Recently, Judaism and the Jewish people have been the subject of conversation as famous artist Ye (formally known as Kanye West) publicly stated his admiration of Adolf Hitler.

Because of this, Senators such as Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) publicly condemned the fallen rapper’s words.

"Anti-Semitism is disgusting and evil. The nonsense Kanye West is spewing is hate and will never, ever be tolerated. As Americans, we must all stand united against anti-Semitism and support our Jewish neighbors in the face of these despicable attacks,” tweeted Scott.

However, the point remains, Moskowitz has an important role to play when it comes to how the Democratic Party could address Jewish issues with the incoming Republican majority in the House of Representatives.
