Greg Steube, Mario Diaz-Balart Bash Omnibus Spending Bill

Though it has passed, Republicans continue castigating the trillion-dollar omnibus spending bill. On Christmas Eve, Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL-17) offered his own statement, calling the bill a "bloated spending package that puts America Last." Similarly, Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL-25) says that this bill "will only further fuel and lengthen inflation."

Rep. Steube tells of the omnibus bill providing funds to "woke projects" and progressive wish list items." These include an LGBT History Museum, the Michelle Obama Trail, and some sort of "coalition that provides services to transgender, immigrant women."

Additionally, the package provides $47 billion to Ukraine and $400 million to other countries' border security, "while Americans are facing skyrocketing inflation and an invasion at our southern border."

He concludes by saying that "this is exactly why America fired the Democrats this year. My hope is that in ten days, the House Republican Majority can finally get this country back on track by serving as a stopgap to the destructive Biden-Schumer agenda."

Diaz-Balart is more concise in his damning of the bill. "Despite having months to work on the FY23 funding bill in good faith with House Republicans, this 4,000+ page spending package was drafted behind closed doors and released less than a week before government funding expires," he says.

"As the American people continue to suffer the consequences of this Administration’s reckless spending and wasteful economic policies, increasing non-defense discretionary spending on these radical left-wing policies will only further fuel and lengthen inflation," he says in his second tweet.

Other Florida Republicans have made similar comments. As we covered, Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio both voted against the bill. Rubio described his anger at being unable to open debate on the bill, while Scott dismissed its lack of his and Senator Mike Lee's (R-UT) amendment to extend the Title 42 provision regarding the southern border.

Similarly, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL-1) lambasted the portion funding border security for Middle Eastern countries, saying no Republican who voted in favor of the bill should not speak about our own border.
