Byron Donalds
At a time in which a massive omnibus spending bill is possibly on its way to the President’s desk, House Republicans including Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) are encouraging their fellow Senate GOP legislators to “take all steps necessary” in order to stop the $1.7 trillion bill.
Republican Representatives and representatives-elect stated that the Senators on the right side of the aisle have enough votes (41) in order to kill the bill. They also write that the attempt to push through such a bloated piece of legislation during a now lame duck Congress, just days before the 118th Congress begins, would not be in the best interest of the Americans that just made their voices heard at the ballot box.
"We urge you to take all steps necessary to stop the soon-to-be finalized omnibus spending bill negotiated with Democrats. At the very least, due respect for Americans who elected us would call for not passing a "lame duck" spending bill just days before Members fly home for Christmas and two weeks before a new Republican majority is sworn in for the 118th Congress. Senate Republicans have the 41 votes necessary to stop this and should do so now and show the Americans who elected you that they weren't wrong in doing so," wrote the legislators.
Cosponsors of the letter also include Rep. Dan Bishop (R-NC), Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-MT), Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC), Rep. Bob Good (R-VA), Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA), and Members of Congress-Elect Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), Andy Ogles (R-TN), and Eli Crane (R-AZ).
Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) and Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) contributed to the letter as well.
Congressman-elect Cory Mills told The Floridian that he was disgusted with the Democrat-proposed omnibus, saying that the measure has simply created to reward Democrats before they turn over power to Republicans in January 2023.
