DeSantis Goes After Businesses For E-Verify Noncompliance

Share

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) is cracking down on employment of unauthorized aliens through usage of the E-Verify system. Six companies, however, have not complied. The Florida Dept. of Economic Opportunity is sending their final letters to these six companies, demanding they comply with the E-Verify law within 30 days.

To reiterate, E-Verify is a system through which employers must prove their employees are eligible to work in the United States, using information pulled from Form I-9 and matching it against Social Security and Dept. of Homeland Security data.

These companies are Prestige Cruise Services, ScribeAmerica, Upperline Health, Intelycare, the American National Red Cross, and M.D.L. Property Maintenance. They must prove their compliance with Florida's E-Verify law by firing any unauthorized alien working for them. Additionally, these companies must no longer knowingly or intentionally hire unauthorized aliens. Should the six companies fail to comply, they face suspension of their licenses to operate in the state.

Such a move is the latest in DeSantis' efforts against illegal immigration. A ferocious critic of President Biden, DeSantis blamed him for the current crisis at the southern border last March, saying that "Trump had it right at the border, Biden's got it wrong."

Later in June of 2021, the Governor sent law enforcement officials to Texas' border with Mexico to enforce border policy, later visiting the border himself the following month.

More recently, DeSantis sent 50 migrants to Martha's Vineyard; a well-known Democrat enclave; in September as a means of bringing the attention Democrats refuse to give to the southern border crisis.
