Gimenez Warns of Migrant Surge After Title 42 Expiration

Share

With Title 42 set to expire this week, the ongoing border crisis will reach a new level of chaos. In a recent appearance on Fox Business' Varney & Co., Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-FL-26) speaks for all Republicans as he excoriates the Biden administration for its handling of the border. "@POTUS is endangering the United States and doing absolutely nothing to secure the border. This madness needs to stop," Rep. Gimenez tweets.

The footage begins with host Stuart Varney asking Gimenez if the Title 42 debate is "relevant." Gimenez answers that it is relevant "in the sense that we expect even more migrants to come across the border after Title 42 goes away, because more migrants will realize that they're going to stay in the United States."

He continues with saying that "it's the incentive that they have, that there's a great chance that they'll stay in the United States. You're going to get more and more of them."

Varney momentarily interrupts to say that the Biden administration is effectively encouraging this mass migration, which Gimenez agrees with. "Yeah, we are," Gimenez says, "and we've encouraged this since day one of the Biden administration. From the first day of office, he revoked many of the Trump administration policies that actually have been working to curtail the number of migrants crossing the border."

Additionally, as Fox's news ticker along the screen suggests, Gimenez warns the expiration of Title 42 will lead to a surge of crossings. Current projections suggest 14,000 migrants will illegally cross the border per day.

Furthermore, Gimenez lays heavy criticism on Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. "Mayorkas went down to the border, spoke with Customs and Border Protections agents down there, basically said that he said that the border was under control, which we have him on tape numerous times saying that there's no problem at the border."

Gimenez is quick to call Mayorkas' bluff, concluding that "we have a huge problem at the border, and not only do we have a huge problem at the border with migrants, we have a huge problem at the border with fentanyl and drugs that are killing tens of thousands of Americans every year."
