With the 2022 midterms slowly coming to a close, the nation is still in store for a dramatic ending. Florida’s neighbor to the north, Georgia, is once again going to have the eyes of the country glued to TV screens, similar to the end of the 2020 election. U.S. Senator and Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) alongside Herschel Walker (R) sent out a memo concerning the runoff in the Peach State.
This election is huge not just for the morale of the Republican Party following a disappointing midterm outing, it’s huge for the possible balance of power in the Senate. Depending on the Senatorial results coming out of Arizona and Nevada, the GOP might already have the majority going into the runoff between challenger Walker and Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA).
However, should one of those western races go the way of the Democrats, the balance of power would be at stake. The results from the race on Tuesday showed Warnock leading Walker by a tally of 49.4% to 48.5%. The runoff was triggered due to Georgia state law requiring a candidate to eclipse the 50% mark.
“Today, we stand on the verge of winning back the Republican majority in the US Senate! While there was no outright winner in Georgia’s Senate race on election night, we will win! With a runoff election set for December 6, the National Republican Senatorial Committee and Team Herschel have already collaborated and finalized a plan to ensure we have a big win. Below, we have outlined our plan and how you can help,” writes Scott and Walker.
With the Libertarian in the Georgia race garnering 2.1% and the runoff shrinking the race to just two candidates, Republicans and the NRSC are counting on the fact that the Libertarian votes will go Herschel’s way.
Should the Republicans flip the seat in Georgia, it could make up for the lost seat in Pennsylvania, the seat in which John Fetterman (D) defeated Dr. Mehmet Oz (R). However, the only way in which Republicans have any hope of taking back the Senate is if they flip one of the seats in either Nevada or Arizona.
