The world watches as the Chinese people take to the streets to protest China’s zero-COVID policy. What’s striking is that thousands of people are defying Chinese authorities by protesting on the streets and at universities.

The people are demanding to be freed from the restrictions, and American lawmakers are sharing their support for the COVID protests.

Taking to the streets to protest lockdowns and COVID tests, protestors have chanted the words “give me liberty or give me death!” The protestors have rallied in support of free speech, democracy, and human rights among other concerns, and the protests now span over 16 locations.

American lawmakers have vocally opposed the Chinese Communist Party with many GOP officials arguing that President Joe Biden (D) should be more aggressive in his approach to Paramount Leader Xi Jinping.

Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley (R), who’s speculated to be launching a 2024 presidential bid, commented on the ongoing protests.

“The Chinese Communist Party will stop at nothing to oppress its own people – locking them in their homes and silencing anyone who dares to speak out,” Haley wrote, urging others to extend their support to “make sure their voices are heard as they bravely risk their lives for freedom.”

Haley further expressed that what the world is watching is “Communist China’s evil… on full display – and the people are standing up.”

In Florida, Republican lawmakers also extended their support, chiding the Chinese government and calling for changes.

“Despite the Chinese Communist Party’s threats, the Chinese people are standing up against Xi and his evil regime,” shared Florida Senator Rick Scott (R), saying that the “brave protestors have EVERY right to demand freedom in the wake of inhumane oppression.”

Scott also called the Chinese Communist Party “an evil regime that will stop at nothing to maintain control. But no matter the opposition, the Chinese people should stand firm.” He signaled the United States’ support by saying “the U.S. stands with those demanding freedom and fighting against the inhumane treatment.”
