This weekend marked the final push for lawmakers to attract support ahead of the election on Tuesday. Florida Rep. Charlie Crist (D) garnered a caravan of supporters, and South Florida was also home to a caravan for Republican candidates including support for President Donald Trump (R). As polls indicate Republicans are likely to take back control of the House and the Senate, incumbents like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) are making final strides before election night.
As of November 4th, AllSides lists Republicans as having an 80% chance of taking the U.S. House while also listing Republicans as having a 66% chance of taking the U.S. Senate.
States like Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Georgia are part of key states that will determine which party will control the House in 2023, and though the GOP is poised to win races, Democrats have pushed back against the alleged “red wave.”
Democrats launched a caravan as part of the Choose Freedom Get out the Vote Bus Tour in support of candidates like Florida Rep. Val Demings (D) and Rep. Crist.
On Twitter, Crist shared pictures of supporters donning shirts and waving signs in support of Democratic candidates. The gubernatorial hopeful also directed verbal jabs at Governor DeSantis, calling him “the most dangerous and extreme candidate in this country.”
“It’s our responsibility to make sure he doesn’t get 4 more years,” said Crist.
Over the weekend, First Lady Casey DeSantis also directed a message to supporters, invoking Paul Harvey’s 1978 speech “So God Made a Farmer.” Instead, she said that “God Made a Fighter” in DeSantis, saying that he is “Florida’s freedom fighter.”
“The world needs to know that Florida will remain a beacon of hope and a citadel of freedom,” she added.
While President Trump appears to have taken a swipe at DeSantis during a rally with Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R), calling DeSantis “DeSanctimonious,” DeSantis has largely remained quiet in reference to Trump, commenting instead on the upcoming election.
