Crist Says DeSantis Signed ‘Freedom Away’

With the midterm election a week away, Florida Rep. Charlie Crist (D) is reminding Floridians that Gov. Ron DeSantis has taken away their freedom. Similar to his comments during their gubernatorial debate, the former Governor of Florida is pushing back against Gov. DeSantis’ defense of a “Free Florida.”

In a new advertisement, Crist accuses DeSantis of signing “your freedom away” while vowing to preserve the woman’s right to choose if he’s elected on November 8^th.

Polls indicate that DeSantis is soaring in support, but Crist continues to warn that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) has made Florida anything but free. Along with Democrats across the state, Crist argues that DeSantis has utilized authoritarian efforts to spread his agenda.

In their debate, Crist highlighted that a Crist administration would ensure that Florida upholds abortion rights, calling DeSantis a threat to a woman’s right to choose.

Sharing a new advertisement on social media, Crist accompanied the ad with his thoughts, expressing that “Ron DeSantis didn’t hesitate to sign your freedom away.”

“When I’m governor, I’ll protect your freedom – especially your right to choose,” Crist vowed.

The right to choose has been a staple of Crist’s platform, and this week, when Crist joins Florida Rep. Val Demings (D) and President Joe Biden (D) on a campaign stop in Miami Gardens, all three are expected to discuss the issue with supporters.

President Biden has agreed to codify Roe vs. Wade, but he says he will do this after the midterm election, calling on voters to ensure that Democrats retain control of both the House and the Senate.

Earlier this year when DeSantis signed HB 5, DeSantis praised the bill, saying that it “protects babies in the womb who have beating hearts, who can move, who can taste, who can see, and who can feel pain.”
