Val Demings Claims the U.S. Doesn't Have Open Borders

Week after week, news that vast amounts of fentanyl – amounts that could kill millions of Americans – has shown up in the United States after crossing the southern border. Also, millions of undocumented immigrants (4.4 million to be exact) have illegally made the trek into the land of the free since President Joe Biden (D) stepped into office. However, figures like Vice President Kamala Harris (D) and Rep. Val Demings (D-FL) swear that the border is secure.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and his campaign was quick to point out the hot take by the former Orlando Chief of Police.

“Val Demings says, ‘No, we do not have open borders.’ Tell that to the families of those who have overdosed. And the law enforcement officers whose colleagues have been killed by criminals in the line of duty. Val can’t be trusted to take the border crisis seriously.”

The Rubio campaign also stated that Demings “has a history of voting for open borders and against keeping Americans safe from drug trafficking, human trafficking, and gang violence.”

In the past, Demings has voted for different bills and resolutions such as granting illegal aliens the right to vote, sending stimulus checks to undocumented immigrants, and agreed with the Biden administration’s decision to end Title 42, which was used to send back immigrants arriving at the border due to COVID.

According to a Fox News article from April, Demings was questioned about the border at an event for the Women’s National Democratic Club in D.C. in which she stated that “I support the lifting of it (Title 42) because the COVID numbers have gone way down, because we’ve done the responsible thing, we’ve gotten our vaccinations and our boosters,"

However, she also reported that she had spoken with Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas who told her that border is processing around 7,000 migrants a day, despite only being able to accommodate 3,500.

In July of this year, 199,976 illegal aliens came across the southern border. At that moment it was the first time in months that less than 200,000 undocumented immigrants had crossed over in one month.
