Rick Scott Commends the Passage of the 'Supporting Families of the Fallen Act'

Just recently, the Supporting Families of the Fallen Act was signed into law by President Joe Biden (D). This bill, which was introduced by Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) alongside co-sponsor Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL). looks to support service members by increasing their life insurance coverage amounts. The bill increases life insurance coverage from $400,000 to $500,000 and is the first update to this allotted amount since 2005.

Upon the news of the passage of the bill, Scott released a statement concerning the legislation.

“Getting the Supporting Families of the Fallen Act signed into law is a huge win for Florida’s military families,” Scott stated. “The Sunshine State is home to 21 military bases, three unified commands, nearly 70,000 active duty personnel and 1.5 million veterans.”

He would also go on to mention that “As a Navy veteran and the son of a World War II veteran, I understand the personal sacrifice our veterans, military members and families make to defend our freedom, and I’ll never stop fighting to make sure they have the benefits they have earned and so rightly deserve,” said Scott.

A variety of associated veteran’s groups such as the Military Officers Association of America and the Wounded Warrior Project have endorsed the legislation.

Sen. Tuberville gave remarks following the passage the bill as well.

“The families of America’s heroes deserve our unwavering support and appreciation,” said the Alabama Senator Tuberville. “Increasing the life insurance benefit provided to families of those who pay the ultimate sacrifice was long overdue, and I am proud to see this important legislation signed into law. We can never fully repay our service members and military families for their sacrifice, but I am committed to finding ways to show our appreciation by doing everything I can to support our troops and their loved ones.”

The bill was also cosponsored by Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Mike Braun (R-IN), John Barrasso (R-WY), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), John Cornyn (R-TX), Mike Rounds (R-SD), and Roger Wicker (R-MS).
