Republican criticism against President Donald Trump (R) continues to mount as the 2022 midterm elections looms nearer. Outgoing Rep. Liz Cheney (R) has already expressed that voters should vote Democrat in the upcoming Arizona election, and now Speaker Paul Ryan (R) is chiming in on the upcoming general election. Commenting on 2024, Ryan is affirming that Trump will not be the GOP nominee because of his “unelectability.”

President Trump has been a polarizing figure in both the political landscape and the Republican party with GOP members embracing him but also chiding him.

Since losing the Republican nomination, Wyoming Rep. Cheney has only doubled down on her stance of rejecting Trump, going so far as urging voters to reject Kari Lake (R) for Governor and Blake Masters (R).

In her comments regarding a subpoena to the president concerning the January 6th investigation, Cheney said, “we are obligated to seek answers directly from the man who set this all in motion, and every American is entitled to those answers.” Cheney has made it clear that she will do everything in her power to ensure Trump is not the nominee in 2024, which included her floating the possibility of running her own presidential campaign.

Now, 2012 Vice Presidential nominee Ryan is commenting on the 2024 election, assuring that Trump will not make it to the nomination.

During an interview with consulting firm Teneo, of which he is the Vice Chairman, Ryan questioned, “we all know that he’s much more likely to lose the White House than anybody else running for president on our side of the aisle, so why would we want to go with that?”

The former Speaker of the House expressed that “Trump’s unelectability will be palpable by then,” so wondering if he’ll become the nominee is of no concern to Ryan because “he’s not going to be the nominee, I think.”

Warning Republicans that they should reject Trump, Ryan said that the only reason why Trump is commanding within the Republican party is because “everybody’s afraid of him.”

“He’s going to try to intimidate people out of the race as long as he can,” Ryan said.

A growing consensus of Republicans across the nation that have been said to be considering a 2024 presidential run are Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley (R).
