DeSantis Campaigns for Zeldin in New York

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) took a trip to New York this past weekend to campaign on behalf of New York Rep. Lee Zeldin (R). While campaigning for Zeldin, DeSantis told the crowd that, under Zeldin’s leadership, New York would be on the trajectory to gain the success of Florida. Calling the upcoming election “an important choice for the state of New York,” DeSantis admitted that Zeldin would be key to making New York a “law and order” state.

DeSantis frequently directs political jabs at both California and New York, and while campaigning for Zeldin, he further detailed that the state has a lot of work to do when it comes to “law and order.”

“I would say the number one thing I hear, where people get so fed up, is they are sick and tired of the crime that you see, particularly in New York City,” DeSantis said. “Florida is a law-and-order state. I am a law-and-order governor. If Lee Zeldin gets into office, New York will become a law-and-order state,” he added.

DeSantis explained that the issue of crime is a “self-inflicted” one, placing blame on current New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D).

“You cut police budgets, you do things like eliminate cash bail, and you have rogue persecutors who won’t even enforce laws that they disagree with. Of course you’re going to have streets that are less safe,” said DeSantis.

In response to the governor’s comments, the Hochul campaign highlighted what it has done to combat crime. As well, the campaign commented on a campaign scheduled for Monday, which will include Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin (R).

Ron DeSantis and Glenn Youngkin are prime examples of far-right Republicans who have worked to roll back abortion rights and bring more guns into their communities,” said Jerrel Harvey, Governor Hochul’s spokesperson.

“Lee Zeldin is cut from the same extremist cloth,” Harvey warned.
