Crist Holds Conference on Affordability Crisis

Florida Rep. Charlie Crist (D) held a press conference this week, inviting Floridians to discuss their experiences with the affordability crisis. According to Crist, the conference was an effort to hold "DeSantis accountable for failing to address Florida's accountability crisis."

In recent weeks, Crist has commented on the growing affordability crisis in Florida, adding that Governor Ron DeSantis' (R) policies have directly contributed to a property insurance crisis. In order to further highlight these concerns, the gubernatorial hopeful held a press conference, inviting several Floridians to share their experiences.

After they shared their stories, directing blame to Governor DeSantis, Crist took the podium, to warn of impending complications if the state does not reject DeSantis.

"We're here because Florida has never been more unaffordable, and Ron DeSantis is making it worse," said Crist, expressing that the Governor "let property insurance double your rates up to $2,200 for the average family in Florida." Thus, Floridians "now pay the highest in the nation for property insurance."

In response to the crisis, Crist said that DeSantis "called a special session that did absolutely nothing but give insurance companies billions and billions in bailouts while everyday Floridians get the shaft."

Citing that the issue has only gotten complicated with the passing of Hurricane Ian. Crist commented that "Florida's market was teetering on the verge of collapse even before" the Hurricane struck Florida.

On social media, the gubernatorial hopeful shared the full press conference, warning that Floridians are "feeling the burden of the DeSantAX - and we've had enough."

Crist commented that "Floridians are finding it harder and harder to afford their family's basic needs" and that the only person "to blame for skyrocketing rent, property insurance, and power bills" is Governor DeSantis.

The former Governor of Florida further warned that the state cannot handle four more years under a DeSantis administration, saying that "families can no longer make ends meet."
