Casey DeSantis: Flipping Coins and Kicking Cancer

Share

On Saturday, the Florida State Seminoles took on and defeated the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the Sunshine State’s capital. However, the final score (44-16) was not the most notable highlight in Tallahassee over the weekend. Right before Chief Osceola and his Appaloosa horse, Renegade,  galloped onto the field to deliver the flame-lit spear to midfield, First Lady of Florida, Casey DeSantis, stole the show.

As it is the month of October and Mrs. DeSantis was declared breast cancer free in May, it was fitting for the First Lady and her children to administer the coin toss prior to the game. During the game, FSU showcased their “United In The Fight Against Cancer” videos, demonstrating different athletes and staff’s stories about how cancer has affected their personal lives.

The crowd erupted upon the public announcer welcoming Mrs. DeSantis to midfield.

“Congrats to the Noles on their big win today! Madison, Mason, Mamie and I had a great time joining the Seminoles for the coin toss! (…Glad we won that too:)”

The game in Tallahassee started at noon. During the game, a video of Mrs. DeSantis was played promoting the Florida Disaster Fund which looks to orchestrate recovery to those affected by Hurricane Ian, including a link to donate to the effort, different shelter options, mental health programs and internet access, individual FEMA assistance, and other resources.

Moving to the northeast side of the state, Florida’s First Lady and the children would later join Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) in Jacksonville for the Georgia-Florida game where he would also facilitate the coin toss for the 3:30 kickoff. The Florida Gators, however, were unable to defend the state against the #1 Bulldogs as they lost by a score of 42-20.

"Today's crowd in Jacksonville was fired up to see America's Governor kick off the Florida-Georgia game! Mason, Madison and I had a blast joining dad!"

Gov. DeSantis was also joined Luke Bryan at his concert in Jacksonville the night before the big Southeastern Conference matchup.

The DeSantis family is certainly adding miles to their odometer in the state before election day on November 8th.
