Black Republican Congressional Candidate Banned from Twitter on Eve of Primary

One day before Florida’s Primary Election, Twitter has suspended a Republican candidate, Dr. Drew Montez who is running for U.S. Congress. Oddly enough, Dr. Montez stated previously on his twitter page that no one has been talking about big tech and that Congress isn’t doing enough to address the issue. He also added that Section 230 would “be on the agenda!” assuming he'd be elected to office.

Section 230 is the law that allows developers such as Google, Facebook, and Twitter to have the ability to moderate content while also being viewed as a free speech platform.

Montez stated in a tweet, “Something I haven’t heard anyone talk about in a while is Big Tech. Big Tech still needs to be addressed and a hearing in front of Congress isn’t enough to get it done. Section 230 will be on the agenda!”

To some, this might just be a case of improper timing. To others, this could come across as politically motivated.

Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) believes this scenario is not only politically motivated, but a case of blatant election interference.

“As the Democrats so eloquently say, this is a ‘threat to Democracy.’ Dr. Drew Montez Clark, a Republican, is running to unseat a Democrat in a predominantly blue district. Yet, @Twitter is actively committing blatant election interference (AGAIN) the day before his primary” said Rep. Donalds.

After the January 6th event, those on the left quickly called Donald Trump (R) a threat to the nation and eventually, social media companies such as Twitter and Facebook banned the president from using their platforms.

Since then, he started his own social media platform, Truth Social.

While Dr. Drew Montez is running unopposed in the Republican primary, the incumbent in the district, Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D) won 79% of the vote on January 11^th in a special election. Florida’s 20^th Congressional District is in South Florida.
