The policies and mandates recommended by Dr. Anthony Fauci during the COVD-19 pandemic continue to polarize Americans. On Monday, Fauci announced he would step down as Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
Additionally, he will step down as Biden's chief medical adviser. He insists, however, that he is "not retiring." Because of the timing of his announcement, Republicans say this will not excuse Fauci from being made to appear before Congress.
District 10 candidate Willie Montague says Fauci "does NOT just get to disappear."
"Dr. Fauci does NOT just get to disappear, but it’s very obvious how guilty he truly is to try and sneak out the back door before the GOP takes back the House and Senate," Montague's tweet reads.
Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL-19) similarly states that "just because you resign, doesn't mean you can't be called to testify before Congress!"
"Memo to Dr. Fauci, just because you resign, doesn't mean you can't be called to testify before Congress!"
Rep. Carlos A. Gimenez (R-FL-26) says a very similar statement a few short hours later:
"Fauci's retirement won't shield him from being held accountable by Congress," Gimenez says simply.
Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) offers Fauci a terse "good riddance."
