Amidst discussion of states banning abortions, Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) released a video on social media, providing information about abortion care in the state of Florida. Highlighting that Florida is still "one of the last bastions of safe abortion care in the south," Rep. Wasserman Schultz condemned "fake 'crisis pregnancy centers" that are "preying on women during their most desperate hour."
Since the Supreme Court ruling that Roe v. Wade would be overturned, Democrats across the country have rallied support in favor of pro-choice legislation.
Florida is one such state where lawmakers have been at odds regarding abortion rights.
Florida Rep. Anna Eskamani (D) took part in a roundtable discussion with Vice President Kamala Harris (D) and Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, releasing a statement informing that the discussion provided the opportunity "to stress to Vice President Harris and Secretary Becerra not only what is at stake here in Florida for reproductive freedom, but also lift up action items that the federal government has taken and can take to secure abortion rights for all."
The video Rep. Wasserman Schultz shared says that to protect access to abortions it's important to provide "medically-accurate healthcare information.
"Even though Florida remains one of the last bastions of safe abortion care in the south, fake 'crisis pregnancy centers' are preying on women during their most desperate hour," the Florida Democrat warned.
"There are an estimated 2500 crisis pregnancy centers in the United States, and they outnumber abortion providers by a ratio of 3:1," Wasserman Schultz detailed, adding that "Florida has the second highest number in the country, just trailing Texas at 150 CPCs, compared to just 65 abortion clinics."
The video shared is an excerpt of a hearing with Fatima Goss Graves, the President, and CEO of the National Women's Law Center, the President of the National Women's Law Center Action Fund, and a co-founder of TIME'S UP Legal Defense Fund.
