Rubio Responds to International Antisemitism

The international Jewish community has faced some adversity, both in the past due to physical violence in Argentina, and recently, accusations of discrimination and apartheid by the United Nations. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) took steps to address both of those events on Friday. This included an announcement with fellow lawmakers concerning a resolution to honor the victims of the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires, and a tweet calling out the UN for antisemitism.

Within the text, the Rubio press release reminds the American people about the attacks on the Jewish community in Argentina in 1992 and 1994, while the resolution is to honor the 84 lives lost in the 1994 car bombing at the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA), which remains Argentina’s largest terrorist attack in history.

“In a posthumous tribute to the fallen victims, and following the 28th anniversary of the terrorist attack against the AMIA, U.S. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL), Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Tom Cotton (R-AR), Ben Cardin (D-MD), Tim Kaine (D-VA), and Chris Coons (D-DE) introduced a bipartisan resolution to recommit efforts to uphold justice for the victims of these vicious attacks.”

Moreover, Rubio also sent out a tweet in opposition of the United Nation’s “human-rights investigator” Miloon Kothari, who insisted that social media is largely controlled by the “Jewish lobby.” Within the article, The Jerusalem Post reports Kothari saying “We are very disheartened by the social media that is controlled largely by – whether it is the Jewish lobby or specific NGOs” and he would go on to mention that “I would go as far as to raise the question of why are they [Israel] even a member of the UN”. Kothari serves on the UN Commission of Inquiry.

“Antisemitism is par for the course at the United Nations. It must be condemned and those responsible for such blatant lies should be held accountable," stated Rubio.
