Paul Renner Defends Parental Rights Bill at Sunshine Summit

Share

Hollywood, FL -  Speaker Designate State Rep. Paul Renner (R-24) took the stage at this year's Sunshine Summit on Saturday where he attacked Democrats on education reform.  The soon-to-be Speaker of the Florida House called to stop educating children on "woke garbage" and defended the Parental Rights Bill.

When asked  about the biggest issue in Florida, Renner claimed the first thing to come to mind was, "educational choice."  Renner elaborated that "decisions should be made by parents and families and students, not by educational police."

Renner also did not fail to mention the popular conservative talking point of schools participating in indoctrinating children with various curricula.

"Parents are well, watching what's being taught and we learned that there's a lot more indoctrination in education going on, and thats not acceptable," said Renner."And so we've taken strong steps to put parents first.  The Parental Rights bill that has been mischaracterized nationally, but we are standing and will continue to stand as long as we're here. Here's a suggestion.  Don't teach any of this woke garbage."

Florida Republicans have prioritized education in the state of Florida, with the DeSantis administration dubbing the state, "The Education State."  While slashing FSA testing and cutting sensitive material from public schools, such as Critical Race Theory, the culture war has officially been initiated.

Just last legislative session, the Parental Rights in Education bill highlighted this significant divide as Democrats rebranded the bill the, "Don't Say Gay Bill."  Unexpectedly, the bill gained significant support from Floridians, with even large numbers of Democrats backing the legislation.
