Moody Announces Prison Sentence for Fraudster

Share

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody (R) announced this week that her office had secured a multiyear prison sentence for a defendant that used personal information to defraud a senior out of close to $62,000. The announcement comes after receiving an endorsement from the Florida Realtors PAC in her reelection bid.

In office, Moody has pursued numerous issues including human trafficking and protecting senior citizens from crimes.

According to a press release from Moody, James Fedrick, the defendant, “had previously pleaded guilty to organized fraud and unlawful use of personal identification information.”

While Fedrick will be serving time, his co-defendant is still at large, and both individuals “used the victim’s PII to trick a bank into sending a replacement credit card to Fedrick – who then racked up thousands of dollars in charges.”

In a statement, Moody commented that “the defendant worked with an accomplice to unlawfully obtain a credit card,” adding that “they then proceeded to rack up more than $60,000 in fraudulent charges on a senior’s account. Now, because of the diligent efforts of law enforcement and my Statewide Prosecutors, the defendant will spend years in prison and is being ordered by the court to pay more than $60,000 in restitution and fines.”

Fedrick will spend “more than 40 months in prison, including a three-year sentence for fraudulent use of personal identifiable information over $5,000.”

Moreover, “upon being released from prison, Fedrick will serve five years probation and pay more than $60,000 in restitution and fines.”

Moody, who’s currently running for reelection, has been championed by GOP members for her time as Florida’s Attorney General.

Having received an endorsement from the likes of President Donald Trump (R), Moody now adds the support of the Florida Realtors PAC to her campaign.

In a statement, Danny Nix, the Florida Realtors PAC Trustees Chair, further championed her work, calling her “a significant force for good in our state.”
