Crist Unveils ‘Accessibility for All’ Plan

Share

A day after announcing his “Freedom to Learn” education plan, Florida Rep. Charlie Crist (D) has now released his “Accessibility for All’ plan. The plan is aimed at “supporting Floridians with disabilities.”

Taking to social media to share the plan, the gubernatorial hopeful expressed that his plan will “make Florida a caring and accessible place for our disability community.” The goal of his plan is to ensure “better care, dignity, and equal access,” and Crist vows that it’s his “promise that, when we win, you’ll once again have a governor who cares.”

Crist’s plan aims to:

  • Expand Medicaid
  • Eliminate the wait list and increase waiter funding
  • Ensure quality Medicaid workforce by increasing the number of caregivers, raising their minimum wages to $15/hr with healthcare benefits
  • Reserve a seat at the table for those with disabilities
  • Fight for accessible schools, housing and transportation
  • Repeal vote-by-mail restrictions
  • Deliver fast, affordable internet for all
  • Keep people with disabilities safe during hurricanes

As a preface to his plan, the Crist campaign explains that “every Floridian should be treated fairly and with dignity,” adding that what this translates to is “providing accommodations in employment, housing, transportation, communication, health services, voting and recreation. It also means supporting families, not ignoring their needs or sweeping them under the rug as the DeSantis Administration has done.”

The plan recounts that during Crist’s time as Governor of Florida, “Charlie created the Governor’s Commission on Disabilities so that Florida’s disability community would have a seat at the table during his Administration.” It further argues that Crist “has a solid record of fighting to better serve the disability community” during his time in Congress, and “when elected Governor again, he has a comprehensive plan to deliver better care with dignity and equal access.”

A detailed look at his plan can be read here.
