Deutch: ‘Climate Change is not a Partisan Issue’

Share

This week, Florida Rep. Ted Deutch (D) took to the House floor to discuss climate change and the effect it’s having on both the United States and Florida. In response, Deutch’s remarks explore the role the United States plays in addressing the concern. Reflecting on his leadership in the Climate Solutions Caucus, Deutch affirmed that combatting climate change should not be “a partisan issue.”

On social media, Deutch shared his full remarks on the House floor, sharing that “In South Florida, climate change is not a partisan issue.”

“Elected and business leaders, Republicans and Democrats alike, understand that lives are lost and costly damage incurred with each day of inaction,” Deutch lamented. “I helped found the Climate Solutions Caucus, along with multiple colleagues from South Florida, to work across the aisle on addressing climate change,” Deutch informed, writing that he is “grateful to have had the opportunity… to speak on the House floor about the importance of this caucus and the implications of the climate crisis for our world.”

The Florida Democrat warned that “the future of our planet depends on our efforts today. This is not about comfort. This is about survival.”

Although Democrats and Republicans have found themselves on opposite sides of the climate change debate, the Climate Solutions Caucus is a bipartisan caucus of lawmakers whose goal is to address climate concerns.

Both the House and the Senate have a caucus, and in the House, Florida Reps. Deutch and Francis Rooney (R) are Co-Chairs.

Deutch announced earlier this year that he would not be seeking reelection. Instead, Deutch announced that he had accepted the position of Chief Executive Officer of the American Jewish Committee. Given that his district leans Democrat, Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D) is considered the frontrunner in winning the seat in the upcoming midterm election.
