DeSantis Team Denounces Rumor that Gov DeSantis Wants Jan. 6th Hearings to Hurt Trump

According to a report by Business Insider, anonymous sources inside the DeSantis team have stated that Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is hoping that the January 6th committee hearings turn out poorly for former President Donald Trump (R). Although the Florida Governor has stated that he’s focused on the 2022 gubernatorial race, rumors have circled around that he could be eyeing 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in 2024. And whether the rumors are true or not, Florida Democrats have started to capitalize on the swirling reports regarding Trump and DeSantis.

“That’s where his head is at. He thinks the goal here is to get the Main Justice to go after him,” according to a Republican consultant “familiar with DeSantis’ thinking” in a Politico article. “That’s what Ron thinks this is all about.”

The article goes on to mention: “DeSantis, who is already on pace to break state-level Florida fundraising records and is seen as a heavy favorite to win reelection, wants to win by more than the 3.2 points Trump won the state by in 2020. POLITICO reported last week that DeSantis also has no interest in seeking Trump’s endorsement for his reelection bid, another signal he does not see his political fate tethered to the former president who helped make him.”

However, the DeSantis reelection campaign sent out a statement saying the quote from the Politico story was a lie.

"The hearings are a total circus meant to distract from Biden's failures. Quoting unnamed sources to detail the Governor's thinking when he has clearly stated that this is a farce is a predictable tactic from POLITICO and the corporate media," a spokesperson told Business Insider. "This is another embarrassing effort to distract from Democrat failures," said Team DeSantis.

The Florida Democratic Party official spokesperson, Travis Reuther, released a statement saying, “Ron DeSantis is so focused on his national profile that his team is now overtly hoping Donald Trump gets indicted.”

“Rather than delivering for Floridians, DeSantis is chasing billionaire donors and launching political stunts that are raising taxes on working families and delaying vaccines for children,” Reuther added,  “Florida deserves a governor who actually cares about lowering skyrocketing housing costs and isn’t just chasing his next job.”

DeSantis is considered to be the Republican presidential frontrunner in 2024 "if" former President Donald Trump decides not to run, and if DeSantis does make the decision to seek the position.
