Nikki Fried Targets DeSantis' Record on Florida LGBTQ Community

Share

The month of June is seen as Pride Month for the gay community, and Florida Democrats are taking note of Governor Ron DeSantis' (R-FL) record on LGBTQ issues.  Now, Commissioner Nikki Fried (D-FL) is targeting DeSantis' record on the LGBTQ community in Florida.

In a recent fundraising email from the Nikki Fried campaign, Fried blasted DeSantis and made big promises for the LGBTQ community if she is elected.

The Fried team stated, "DeSantis signed a hateful transgender sports ban, vetoed mental health funding for survivors of the Pulse shooting, and vetoed funding to house homeless LGTBQ+ youth."

"DeSantis signed the 'Don’t Say Gay' bill, forbidding discussions of gender identity and sexual orientation in our schools, and alienating LGBTQ+ students."  Commissioner Fried added, "Marriage equality is on the line, and DeSantis is determined to continue his attacks against Florida’s LGBTQ+ community."

Fried further claims that she will is the candidate, "who has ALWAYS stood with the LGBTQ+ community and ALWAYS fought for equality."

LGBTQ politics has been especially pronounced since last legislative session when Florida passed the, "Parental Rights in Education," bill that was effectively rebranded as the, "Don't Say Gay," bill by Democrats.

Democrats have all but stopped trashing the Parental Rights bill.  Now, “Say Gay” and, “It’s Ok to Say Gay,” billboards have been popping up all over the state last week.

Fried for awhile was considered the frontrunner in the Democratic gubernatorial primary race, but Rep. Charlie Crist has surpassed here and appears to be steamrolling towards an election night victory. Rep. Crist has also just announced the endorsement of Progressive Rep. Anna Eskamani, bolstering his growing progressive bona fides.
