New Poll: Majority of Florida Republicans Support Legal Abortion Access

Florida is not as conservative as one would think

Between the leaked SCOTUS draft opinion to throw out Roe v. Wade, and Florida proposing even more legislation to crack down on the practice, abortion has made its way back to center stage for plenty of Floridians.  While the state is leaning more red than ever, a recent poll suggests that a majority of Florida Republicans favor legalized abortion.

The FAU poll gave numbers very contrary to the rhetoric Florida Republicans have pushed under the DeSantis administration.  Most Floridians, and a solid amount of Republicans, think that abortion access should be available, at the very least in some circumstances.

67% of Floridians and more than 50% of Republicans, responded to the poll saying abortion should be legal in most or all cases.  Only 12% of Floridians said that it should be illegal in all cases.

Although Florida Republicans have a more moderate opinion than expected, this has not stopped legislation from being passed that further restricts abortion access.

Just last month after the leaked Supreme Court draft opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade, the land mark case that green-lights abortion as a federal right, Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has teased looking at banning abortion in Florida.

The issue has brought out the worst in the politically active, with the Department of Homeland Security even stepping in and cautioning the public about pro-choice violence.  The DHS has also confirmed they are already looking into threats since the leaked draft opinion, with pro-choice advocates threatening to, "Burn down," the Supreme Court.
