'It's Okay to Say Gay' Billboards Continue to pop up in Florida

Share

June is Pride month in the LGBTQ community and activists in Florida are out in force trying to bring more attention to the false “Don’t Say Gay” political narrative that was coined during the 2022 legislative session that concluded in March.

“Say Gay” and now “It’s Ok to Say Gay” billboards have been popping up all over the state last week, and now it was only natural for the billboards to start populating in Broward County.

There are no less than 4 of these or similar signs out on display along major thoroughfares like I-95.

The ad buy is strictly to bring added attention to the Parental Rights in Education bill that Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law earlier this year.

Don't Say Gay

The bill, now law, never mentioned the term “gay” nor does it target the gay community, but because it does not allow school teachers to teach sexual identity or talk about sexuality in grammar schools, activists cleverly coined called the bill the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

Rep. Carlos Guillermo Smith (D) also admitted that the word "gay" was not found in the legislation.

Trump Republican state House candidate Brian Clowdu, who happens to be openly gay, supported the bill and now law

“The route of this bill is getting woke propaganda out of schools. LET KIDS BE KIDS. I cannot support this bill enough,” said Clowdus.

Sen. Shevrin Jones (D), who is openly gay, led the charge against the bill during the legislative session and continues to press the "say gay" narrative or call to arms.
