The Democratic-led U.S. House of Representatives has just voted 215-207 on a gun control measure to ban high-capacity magazines and increase the age for an individual to purchase a firearm.
The bill (H.R.1153) that would "provide for an increased age limit on the purchase of certain firearms, prevent gun trafficking, modernize the prohibition on untraceable firearms, encourage the safe storage of firearms, and for other purposes; and for other purposes," was voted on along party lines with only four Republican having missed the vote. Florida Rep. Brian Mast was one of the "not voting" members
The bill was introduced as an answer to the recent string of mass shootings in Uvalde, Texas and Buffalo, New York. President Joe Biden recently suggested that even 9mm handguns should be banned.
Earlier in the day, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis addressed the move to hold a special legislative session in Florida to address the growing "gun violence" problem.
"With all due respect to these Leftists, they just want to come after your Second Amendment rights. Let's just be honest, that's what they want to do. they don't want you, they view you as a law abiding citizen as the target of what they're trying to do," said Gov. DeSantis
