Hillary Clinton Endorses Moskowitz

Earlier this year, Florida Rep. Ted Deutch (D) announced that he would not be running for reelection, leaving a relatively safe Democratic congressional seat vacated. This year's midterm election will determine whether the seat will remain blue. Jared Moskowitz (D), who’s worked closely with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (D) as the state's director of Emergency Management, is vying for the seat. While he’s picked up a number of endorsements, Moskovitz has now been endorsed by the former presidential nominee and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (D), who called Moskowitz one of many “champions” needed in Congress.

Moskowitz, who’s earned the nickname “Master of Disaster” after his time as the head of Florida’s Department of Emergency Management, was also tapped by Governor DeSantis to replace Barbara Sharief on the Broward County Commission. With his term coming to a close in November, the Florida Democrat is looking to transition to Florida’s 23^rd congressional district, and Democratic support could push him to do so.

Taking to social media, the former 2016 presidential candidate expressed that “we need more champions in Congress to help prevent gun violence and save lives,” affirming that Moskowitz “will be one of those champions.”

The former Secretary of State responded to and shared a new campaign video Moskowitz posted, which is a video of him and Fred Guttenberg, a gun control activist who lost his daughter in the Parkland shooting.

“I worked with him & other MSD families to turn anguish to action,” writes Moskowitz, adding that “we stood up to the NRA to pass gun violence prevention laws in Florida.”

The Brady Pac, which is dedicated to electing “gun violence prevention champions” has also endorsed Moskowitz for his gun violence prevention efforts.

The PAC called Moskowitz “an instrumental force for FL gun safety legislation following the Marjory Douglas Stoneman HS mass shooting, and he continues the fight for safer communities.”

Clinton's endorsement adds to the 100 other endorsees of Moskowitz's campaign.

But before Moskowitz can challenge the Republican congressional nominee in November, he must first win  his Democratic primary race. Former Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Ben Sorensen, Mike Trout, Allen Ellison, and Hava Holzhauer, are all running in the Democratic primary race.

The Republican primary race is comprised of Joe Budd, Darlene Swaffer, Steven Chess, and 2018 Republican nominee James Pruden. Pruden is considered by many as the frontrunner in the race.
