Webster Cosigns Letter Demanding Answers about the 'Disinformation Board'

Share

On Friday, Rep. Daniel Webster (R-FL) representing Florida’s 11th District, cosigned a letter asking questions and inquiring about the Department of Homeland Security’s “Disinformation Governance Board” created by the Biden administration.

According to the Webster press release regarding his signature, “This letter outlines three primary concerns with the creation of this Board. First, ethical concerns about an organization charged with securing the homeland engaging in activities that could impact speech. Second, Department overreach in authority as a domestically focused organization through the creation of a board that would distract from its existing missions – especially during the ongoing border crisis. Third, concerns surrounding the appointment of Nina Jankowicz, a self-proclaimed ‘internationally-recognized expert on disinformation’ to head the board.”

The letter is addressed to Alejandro Mayorkas, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. He was appointed by President Biden at the start of his term.

Within the letter, Mayorkas was asked about the border crisis and his willingness to diverge DHS resources to this Board. The letter presses, “Additionally, during your testimony last week, you claimed the Biden administration has ‘effectively managed’ the border crisis. Meanwhile, the policies of the current administration have resulted in over 1.5 million border encounters in the last six months, which is the largest in our nation’s history. We are concerned that the Disinformation Governance Board will distract from this crisis.”

Unless a vast majority of the public shows distaste for the Board, the letter will most likely fall on deaf ears.
