Scott Cosponsors Bill Aiming to Defund Disinformation Board

Share

Former Governor of Florida and current Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) joined Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) and others to present legislation with the purpose of defunding President Biden’s (D) Disinformation Governance Board. This institution is within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Sen. Scott sent out a press release Tuesday stating in a tweet that

“@DHSgov’s ‘Disinformation Board’ isn’t about a commitment (sic) to the truth or keeping families safe. It’s using the federal gov’t to police speech & I urge my colleagues to support.”

Within the press release, Sen. Scott also had this to say; “Joe Biden is using DHS to create thought police and it should scare the living daylights out of every American. The president claims to care about fighting disinformation, but he and his administration have repeatedly lied to the American people and even called on social media companies to censor and silence American voices…This is Joe Biden and the Democrats using the federal government to police speech. Biden’s thought police is something straight out of Orwell’s 1984”

It is stated within the press release that Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) cosponsored the bill as well. Just a few days ago, Rubio alluded to the Disinformation Governance Board as being Orwellian as well, calling it the “Ministry of Truth.”

“Nothing else we are working on will matter if we don’t put an end to the Biden’s Ministry of Truth”

According to an article by Aaron Blake for The Washington Post, Nina Jankowicz, who assumed the title of the board’s executive director, has “supported Democrats, praised efforts to crack down on coronavirus misinformation on social media and expressed skepticism about the provenance of Hunter Biden’s laptop.”
